This is a very special coffee bean, and I always enjoy sharing it. A Peaberry is unique among the kinds of coffee beans available in the market; it's a single oval bean rather than the usual two-section flat-sided beans. It has a slightly spicier flavor, too, and a much more intense roast profile. It's unusual, to be sure, but it's medium-body and fruit-sweetness are supremely satisfying - in fact, many people ask us for Peaberry every time they order! Tanzania is the world's largest producer of exceptional sun-dried Peaberry coffees, and Ruvuma is acclaimed for it's flavors that are slightly reminiscent of popular Kenya varietals.

Tanzania is probably one of the oldest-known continuously-inhabited areas on Earth. Fossil remains of humans and pre-human hominids have been found dating back over two million years. Ruvuma is the region in Tanzania named after the Ruvuma River which forms most of its Southern boundary with Mozambique. It is mountainous in the northeast, where the famous Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, is situated.

Tanzania contains many large and ecologically significant wildlife parks, including the famous Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park in the north, and the Selous Game Reserve and Mikumi National Park in the south. Gombe National Park in the west is known as the site of Dr. Jane Goodall's studies of chimpanzee behavior.

The coffee here is typically shade grown. Mixed crops of bananas and native plants allow the growers to have less impact on the environment while creating a more productive landscape. This great Tanzania coffee exhibits intense flavors of bright lemon, cherry, and a floral-toned honey sweetness with thick, full syrupy body that finishes with hints of cedar and cinnamon.

It's early morning, daddy wakes up, he grabs the Ruvuma, but he doesn't know what his name is. He brews it and the children start to sing ! Birds are gathering in the window sill. even the dogs and cats are waiting for a sip !Daddy transforms into an actual human being ! He drinks one cup then two, he starts to shout and stomp his feet ! He grabs a meagaphone and starts to proclaim to the neighborhood, "Tanzania Ruvuma ,I've found it ! THis is undescribable, Honey order me 500 tons !

An exceptional treat October 26, 2008

This is a very unique coffee with a great diversity of flavor. The brightness of fruit notes blending into earthy wood overtones and a slight smokeyness from the roast. The somewhat syrupy body feels great on the tongue, as a premium coffee should. A bit heavy for a breakfast coffee, but fabulous for the evening. Especially well suited to the French Press.

WOW September 23, 2008

This coffee fulfills every promise made about it.  It brews exceptionally well in a drip machine, maintaining that "earthy" connection of a well grounded taste profile.  Add a smooth finish, and it's worth another cup!

This is my second purchase of this bean.

All I can say is April 29, 2008

This has become our favorite African coffee, the one for that perfect afternoon or after dinner treat.  It starts with a burst of taste and aroma, then a beautiful balance of spice, subtle sweet caramel (not overpowering), a hint of warm clean woods, and an incredible smooth finish.  For coffee lovers who like a bit of adventure - wonderful body, not mild but definitely not bitter, no tangy aftertaste.
